Vinyl car wrapping is the process of customising the overall aesthetics of your vehicle by applying precise panel trimmings of coloured and sometimes textured vinyl sheets. The use of car vinyl wraps not only transformed your car but it also can protect your car’s original paint work from the harsh Australian environment.
If you are looking to transform the colour of your car while retaining the original factory paint work, then vinyl wraps is what you are looking for. It is also a cheaper alternative than repainting your car as it can be a big job that requires preparation, layers of primer and drying time.
Under most circumstances, majority of vinyl wraps are made of heavy-duty vinyl with an adhesive backing. The PVC and plasticizers in vinyl wraps is where the durability lies. At Craftsmen Automotive Professional, we have a huge selection of colours to choose from gloss, matte to chrome using Avery Dennison Supreme Wrapping Film.

Generally, most car vinyl wraps utilise Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC). To ensure these car wraps are seamlessly installed on to cars, plasticizers are added to give it that flexibility to wrap cars of various sizes.
If you have decided to customise your car with vinyl wraps, we recommend properly cleaning your car. We recommend you thoroughly wash your car with mild detergent and water the day prior installing vinyl wraps. We do not recommend waxing your car as it will affect the adhesive elements in vinyls wrap preventing it from effectively sticking to your car.
But need not worry, at Craftsmen Automotive Professional we will thoroughly inspect and clean your vehicle to ensure our vinyl wraps needs are fulfilled.
The amount of vinyl wraps required for your vehicle depends on the model and make of it. Generally speaking, most small vehicles will require about 15-16 meters of vinyl. Medium sized vehicle such as an Audi A5 & 6 will require 18-19 meters of vinyl. While, full sized vehicles such as an Audi A7 & 8 will require 19-23 meters of vinyl.
But leave the calculations to us. We have had the pleasure to wrap vehicles of various size and shape including Porsches, Mustangs and many more!
On the contrary, car vinyl wraps will protect your car paint. They act as a layer protection that covers the paint, preventing damage from the harsh Australian weather. However, if the quality of car paint isn’t the best to start with, it will most likely cause greater damage during the installation and removal of vinyl wraps. This is where an experienced car detailer like Craftsmen Automotive Professional is imperative when installing vinyl wrap to your car. We will inspect your vehicle and discuss the right vinyl wrapping process for your specific car.
We do not recommend vinyl wrapping cars that are primed and unpainted as this prevents proper adhesion of air egress vinyls when installing them. Vinyl wraps are best applied to original paint (OEM). Proceeding with installing this car wrap over unconditioned cars can lead many problems down the road.
Furthermore, we do recommend vinyl wrap for vehicles with the following conditions:
When you first get your car vinyl wrapped there are a few things you aftercare considerations you need to know. Firstly, we do not recommend washing your car or leaving your car in the rain for the first 5 days after installation. Moisture under the car wrap is still evaporating and therefore need time to set. In addition to this, you may notice some bubbles/slight haze in the car wrap. This is nothing to be of concern as this is part of the curing process and will settle over time. Only after this curing process, you may commence washing your car as per normal.
Once the vinyl wrap has cured, you can wash your car. We recommend the 2-bucket method. If you wish to normally use a pressure spray, we suggest you spray at least 1 meter away from your car and always from the panel edges to prevent the vinyl from peeling. Keep it below 2000 psi with a 40-degree wide spray angle where possible.
We do not recommend you polish with abrasives on your newly wrapped vehicle, particularly with aftercare products that contains petroleum or solvents as they can damage the film. This goes the same with waxing. Waxes may contain certain chemical compounds that break down the PVC film when rubbed in to.
You can used liquid sealant or mild car cleaning detergent and water mix when cleaning your vinyl wrapped car. We recommend using cleaning detergents with neutral PH levels, anywhere between 5 and 9. This generally means avoiding cleaning products that contain any strong soluble substances, alcohol or abrasive components.
The 2-bucket method is the safest approach when cleaning your vinyl wrapped car. That is one bucket for washing and one bucket for rinsing. Use a silicone squeegee to remove water spots and dry with a microfiber/soft non-abrasive towel.
